Brussels calls on Bulgaria and 5 other countries to ratify the Istanbul Convention
On the day against violence against women, MEPs reminded that 6 EU countries have not yet ratified the Istanbul Convention, which also protects women's rights.
These are - Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia and Lithuania. MEPs have once again called on states that have not ratified the convention to do so.
The European Commission will present early next year legislative proposals to combat violence against women.
However, Brussels insists that accession to the Istanbul Convention by all member states remains a leading goal in the EU.
