Approximately 50 representatives of diplomatic missions in Bulgaria visited the unique church “St. Teodor Tiron and St. Teodor Stratilat”, built in 17th century and located in the village of Dobarsko, near the town of Razlog in the south part of Rila Mountain. The visit of the church, which is a national monument of culture, was initiated by the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kristian Vigenin.
The diplomats were impressed by the murals and over 460 images painted on the walls. The wall paintings are original and have retained their original colours from 400 years ago. It is the only church in Bulgaria with images of 30 women saints.
The church is famous for the painted scene of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ depicted as going to the sky in something looking like a space rocket.
According to Minister Kristian Vigenin the church deserves to be included in UNESCO world heritage list.
