Eighth night of anti-government protest in Sofia

On the eighth day of the protest on July 16, representatives of the civic association “Bulgaria United with One Purpose” (BUOP) gathered outside the former Party house in central Sofia.

Another group of protesters gathered outside the Presidency.

Later the two groups merged and the procession passed through Tsar Osvoboditel boulevard, Dondukov, pass by Alexander Nevski Cathedral and reached Eagles Bridge.

Residents of the coastal city of Bourgas also joined the protest. They brought the flag from the attempt to reach Rossents Park and a replica of electric execution chair.

The demands of the protesters remain unchanged- resignation of the government and chief Prosecutor, Ivan Geshev, reforms in the judicial system and introduction of electronic voting at elections.

"We want Boyko Borissov to resign immediately, Chief Prosecutor Geshev to resign and nothing more for now. Then we will think of what to do. With each passing day the situation becomes more heated, you see how many people have gathered, this is not accidental and it is not because of people's love ", protesters shared.

About 20:40, the protesters walked from Eagles’ Bridge to the direction of Vassil Levski national stadium.

The protest was attended by people of all ages, chanting "Resignation".

The police said they have taken actions to facilitate the procession while maintaining public order.

After 21:00, the protesters walked back to the so called Triangle of Power.

The protest went calm, with a little bit of tension rising about 22:0), when young people with hoods and dressed in black T-shirts, lit fire torches in front of the building of the Council of Ministers. There were suspicions that some of them may be provocateurs and representatives of football fan groups.

A protest was also held in front of the building of the public service broadcaster BNT with the participation of members of the public, journalists and politicians. The leader of "Yes, Bulgaria" Hristo Ivanov, Ivaylo Mirchev, arch. Borislav Ignatov were also at the protest. They demanded the resignation of the director general of the public service broacaster, Emil Koshlukov.
