The European Union is not threatened by disintegration after the UK’s leave vote, the Head of European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, Ognian Zlatev, commented in an interview for BNT on 27th of June. He described the situation as an unprecedented.
The EU leaders aim is the split to happen in accordance with the rules and avoid a long period of uncertainty that might create possibilities for financial speculations.
In the recent several years it has happened so in Europe that we emerge from one crisis and go into another, while dealing with the previous one. We are optimistic that we will deal with this crisis. It is not pleasant for anyone after 43 years of fruitful cooperation to make way for splitting. We have to take care in assessing how to choose the way in which the splitting will take place so that it is beneficial to both sides.
"It is quite natural the Bulgarians in the UK to feel some anxiety," he said and added that there was no real threat for the Bulgarian students, because there was academic autonomy in the UK universities and they decided for themselves what would be best for them.
"I do not think that the Bulgarians residing in the UK legally have reasons to worry because they have identity documents. So I do not see some big drama about to happen to them, ” Zlatev said.
