Large-scale testing for coronavirus in Plovdiv show 2% have antibodies

On average, only 2% of the residents from Plovdiv who took part in a large-scale testing have coronavirus antibodies.

Medical professionals from hospitals and medical establishments in Bulgaria’s second largest city of Plovdiv were also included in the study.

A total of 1,108 people have given consent to participate. 553 of them went to the laboratory to give a blood sample. 249 volunteers and 200 front-line medical workers were also tested for coronavirus.

The large-scale testing in the city of Plovdiv began on May 15. The testing was voluntary, on a random basis, and was conducted in 6 regions of the city,.

It was done to help identify how widespread is the virus across the city and to answer the question of how many people have encountered it, whether they have already contracted it, or are carriers of the infection.
