PM will participate in the European Council summit in Brussels

"I sincerely hope that despite the differences, we will reach an agreement today," Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on July 17 from Brussels, where he is going to take part in an extraordinary meeting of the European Council today and tomorrow. This is the first meeting of the European leaders since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, in which they attend in person.

In the Belgian capital, Heads of State and Government are discussing the European Recovery Plan in response to the COVID-19 crisis, which includes the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 and the Next Generation EU instrument.

During a video conference on 19 June, EU leaders exchanged views on the proposal for the Recovery Plan presented by the European Commission on 27 May.

The Commission's proposal is based on two pillars - a new € 750 billion EU Next Generation Recovery Instrument and a € 1100 billion MFF. On 10 July, European Council President Charles Michel presented the EU's main objectives - repairing the damage caused by COVID-19, reforming European economies and transforming the European societies.

Cohesion and the Common Agricultural Policy remain a priority for Bulgaria, and our country will insist on their ambitious financing. Bulgaria defines the European Commission's proposal of May 27 as balanced, given the serious challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EU's Fair Transition Fund is also crucial in the transition to green energy, and it must meet the current challenges the Member States face. In this sense, the priority for Bulgaria is for the Fund to provide funds for the promotion and development of green energy capacities in regions where energy capacities have not existed so far.
