Prosecutor's Office pressed charges against the mayor of Cherven Bryag

The specialised prosecutor's office charged the Mayor of Cherven Bryag Danail Valov with corruption. He was accused of having violated his official duties in 2017 as a contracting authority under the Public Procurement Act.

Without there being any grounds in the law, Valov terminated a public procurement for delivery of a hot lunch for socially disadvantaged people in Cherven Bryag and Koynare, thus favouring two companies related to him.

Valov was detained on March 20 and released under a $ 75,000 money bail. The prosecution said it would seek his removal from office.

Five more municipal employees were detained during the operation. For the time being, they are witnesses.
