“The cabinet to resign, preferably immediately after the latest vote of no-confidence,” demanded Sergei Stanishev, the leader of Bulgarian Socialist Party, at the party’s plenum on 10th June. The plenum was held to analyze the results of the recent European Elections and the first year of the terms of office of the government led by Plamen Oresharski.
The BSP leader pointed out he did not expect their partner in the ruling coalition, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, (MRF), to come out with a 'sentence' against the government. Stanishev considers that BSP cannot bear responsibility to govern on its own. Last week, MRF proposed early elections.
According to Stanishev, the best option for Bulgaria would be early elections by the end of July. Stanishev emphasized that BSP had not tightly gripped on power and called for urgent consultations among the political parties to set the date of the elections.
Stanishev also requested the plenum to decide whether they would assign him to lead the party in the early elections.
