Bulgarias President Called the Consultative Council for National Security

Bulgaria’s President Roumen Radev convened a meeting of the Consultative Council for National Security on 9th of October.

The topic to be discussed includes legislative measures necessary to fight against corruption.

On Wednesday, 4th of October, the government approved a draft anticorruption law which was submitted to Parliament. The Bulgarian Socialist Party also have prepared a draft. The main difference between the two drafts is the institution which would appoint the head of the new anticorruption body. The main ruling party GERB suggest the National Assembly to name the person who would manage the anticorruption body, while the opposition BSP believe that the new anti-corruption agency should be managed by a director appointed by the Head of State.

Another difference between the two drafts is in the functions of the new anti-corruption body. BSP think it should be an investigative body. According to GERB it should impose only administrative sanctions.
