Lot 2 of Bulgaria’s Struma motorway was officially opened on 22nd of October.
The new stretch, between the towns of Dupnitsa and Blagoevgrad is 37 km and 480 m long. The construction was financed by European funding.
So far, the construction of 69 km out of 150 km long stretch of the motorway, supposed to link the village of Daskalovo and Kulata border check point at Bulgaria’s border with Greece, has been finalised.
The opening ceremony was attended by Bulgaria’s Prime Minsiter Boyko Borissov, President Plevneliev and ministers.
The new section will give drivers faster journeys from Sofia to Blagoevgrad, taking about 40 minutes.
It will also take less time to get to Bulgaria’s resorts Bansko and Sandanski, as well as to Greece.
