10 arrested in an operation targeting organised crime group in Sofia and Varna

A large-scale operation of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime against an organized criminal group committing crimes against the country's tax system is underway, BNT learned on December 1. The operation is conducted on the territory of Sofia-city, Sofia-district and Varna.

So far, more than 10 people have been detained. Inspections are carried out at trade sites and warehouses of companies involved in criminal activity, including trade of expensive brands of perfumes and cosmetics without them being duly declared. An unregistered VAT refund is also being investigated.

According to BNT sources, the criminal activity of the group has been developing since the beginning of 2019, and so far the damage to the state budget is approximately BGN 5 million. The operation is conducted jointly by the CDCOC and the National Revenue Agency.
