160 police operations against vote buying conducted so far in the country
As at today, there are 160 police operations and 60 pre-trial proceedings, the caretaker Minister of the Interior Atanas Ilkov informed journalists at the Council of Ministers on October 15.
"A specialised police operation was launched on 27 September across the country targeting the buying and selling of votes, the Minister recalled. The main task of the operation is to counteract vote-buying, but in parallel, all police officers involved in these operations are also working on other priorities outlined by the Ministry of Interior," the Minister said.
He added that in the course of the Ministry of Interior's actions, other crimes are also being detected and all the results are reported daily. "It is entirely another matter how these reports are utilized," he said. He stressed that the Ministry of Interior officials do not ignore any circumstance in the signals related to the buying and selling of votes.
It is not correct to use the Ministry of Interior in the pre-election campaign, the caretaker Interior Minister said and assured that the ministry he heads will continue to work at the same pace.
