20 people evacuated from their homes in Batanovtsi due to floodings
Residents of the town of Batanovtsi, Western Bulgaria, had to be evacuated after torrential rain caused the Struma river to overflow. Part of the town is at risk of floodings.
A partial state of emergency was declared in the Pernik region on January 11. It is in effect for Batanovtsi, Yardzhilovtsi and Cherna gora. The streets in these settlements look like rivers. There are flooded yards and basements.
The situation is most serious in the town of Batanovtsi. About 20 people were evacuated. According to BNT sources, they are accommodated with their relatives, and the local government will try to arrange compensations for the damage caused by the natural disaster.
The water level of Struma river is expected to further rise in the next hours according to the forecast of the mayor of Pernik, stanislav Vladimirov.
The town of Trun also declared state of emergency today as the Erma river overflowed and flooded yards. Residents were not evacuated. A dike is being built.
