A car with migrants crashed into a block of flats in Elhovo
A car carrying migrants crashed into a block of flats in the town of Elhovo, Southern Bulgaria, on September 12. No one has been injured.
The accident happened around 20:00. The car passed through green areas, then crashed into a block of flats on the central street "Alexander Stamboliiski" in Elhovo.
Elhovo mayor Petar Kirov confirmed to BNT. According to him, it is still unclear what exactly happened.
The police said that three Bulgarian citizens were detained after disobeying border police officers
According to the Ministry of Interior, a van and a car disobeyed a stop signal given by a border patrol in the Elhovo area in the late afternoon on September 12. The vehicles were travelling from the border to the interior of the country. Following the disobedience, thepolice gave a chase. The van set off towards Sredets, where it was stopped with spikes spread out on the road. The driver was detained.
The car headed in another direction - towards Elhovo, the driver continued to disobey the signals of the border police and entered the town. The driver and his companion, both Bulgarian citizens, jumped out into traffic and fled. The car continued on its momentum and crashed into a block of flats. There were no injuries. After a quick cordon and search, the two Bulgarian nationals were arrested.
Eight foreigners identifying themselves as Syrians were found in the car. They will be dealt with by officers of the Migration Unit.
Actions to clarify the case are ongoing. A report to the Prosecutor's office is forthcoming.
