A group of 69 illegal migrants detained in a lorry on Trakia Motorway
A group of 70 migrants was detained on the Trakia motorway in the night on December 11. They were being transported in a lorry by two Romanian citizens.
The migrants were detained in a parking lot in the Sliven section of the motorway (southeastern Bulgaria) after the vehicle crashed.
The men identified themselves as Afghans. According to police, all are between 13 and 38 years old. Fourteen of them were given medical attention at hospitals in Sliven and Yambol because they were exhausted.
The migrants are to be transferred to the refugee centre in the town of Lyubmets. The Romanian smugglers are yet to be charged. The lorry in which the migrants were being transported had Austrian registration and was rented from Romania.
