A long-lasting period of dangerously hot weather expected in the country, forecasters say
A long period of dangerously hot weather is expected in the country, the forecasters say. Yesterday, July 9, the temperature in Sandanski (Southern Bulgaria) reached almost 40° per Celsius, and in the coming days there will be areas with higher temperatures. Code yellow weather alert for dangerously high temperatures has been issued across the country again today. The maximum temperatures in most areas of the country will be from 35° to 39°, in Sofia - about 33°, on the coast - from 29° to 31°, forecasters say.
In the afternoon, it will remain sunny in most of the country, but in some places in eastern Bulgaria and mountainous areas it will rain and thunder. There will be light winds, moderate northeasterly winds in the eastern areas and along the Black Sea coast.
The sea water temperature is 26°. The sea swell will be weak.
The weather will remain sunny in the mountains tomorrow as well, but showers are possible in the afternoon. A moderate wind will blow from the east-northeast and maximum temperatures on the highest peaks will be 14° to 19°.
Isolated to scattered showers and thunders are also possible in the afternoons in the coming days, mainly in the eastern part, as well as in the mountainous areas of the country, but it will remain very hot.
As the hot and almost rainless weather continues, areas of extreme risk of fires are increasing.
