A new outbreak of the wildfire in Greece has crossed into Bulgarian territory
People and heavy equipment are fighting on two fronts against the fire in the Slavyanka mountain on the Bulgarian-Greek border. To the west, a new outbreak of the fire in the Greek part of the Slavyanska mountain has crossed into Bulgarian territory and is spreading rapidly, while on the eastern front the rugged terrain continues to pose many difficulties for the firefighting teams.
Although the perimeter of the fire continues to expand, there is no danger for the two settlements near the border - Goleshovo and Petrovo.
A total of 130 people are involved in extinguishing the fire today - firefighters, military, forestry officials and volunteers, as well as the two aircraft from Spain.
The efforts of all teams are aimed at bringing the fire, under control. It has been raging for the third week in the Slavyanka mountain.
The situation in the area above the village of Senokos remains calm. There are smouldering outbreaks there, which are monitored by teams on duty.
"The available resource will be divided into two. A new fire break is being built, the new fire has not been localized. There is no danger to the residents of the village of Petrovo. Since last night, a bulldozer has been working to create clearings. We need help from the air, the terrain is rugged and difficult to access," Eng. Plamen Poyukov from State Forest Service – Katuntsi told BNT.
