Acting Prosecutor General orders an inspection into pending and suspended pre-trial proceedings against Judicairy members
Acting Prosecutor General, Borislav Sarafov, ordered a review into the investigation of pending and suspended pre-trial proceedings for crimes of a general nature committed by judges, prosecutors and investigators, other persons with immunity and members of the Council of Ministers.
The review will also cover cases of crimes under Chapter One of the Special Part of the Criminal Code - crimes against the Republic.
A team of eight prosecutors from the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office will check whether the principle of random selection for the allocation of cases has been observed, the timeliness and rhythm of investigations, whether the supervising prosecutors have acted in a timely manner in exercising their powers of direction and supervision of pre-trial proceedings, the procedural coercive measures taken against the accused, etc.
Two groups of cases will be examined - pending pre-trial proceedings and suspended pre-trial proceedings. This requires checking the grounds for the suspension of cases and the period of suspension.
The report of the inspection should be submitted by August 7, 2023. The supervision of the implementation of the order is assigned to Maria Pavlova, Deputy Prosecutor General.
