Another public killing: No one arrested for the murder of Martin Bozhanov so far
No one has been arrested for the murder of Martin Bozhanov so far, the Ministry of Interior said on February 1. The crime scene in the capital's Gorna Banya residential district remains cordoned off by police. A second inspection is being made in the area of the apartment complex where the man was killed last night.
One of the hypothesis for the murder of Bozhanov, who was widely known as “The Notary”, is his involvement in property frauds, for which there is evidence in the Prosecutor's office.
Two judges had filed complaints some time ago over threats made towards them by “The Notary”.
Investigative teams continued working all night at the murder scene in the capital's Gorna Banya district. The victim was Martin Bozhanov, nicknamed Notary. According to unofficial information, a 22-caliber gun cartridge case was found during the search of the area. According to experts, this type of bullet and this type of weapon could not be ballistically examined because they are "crushed".
The shooting took place in a gated complex on the grounds of the former diplomatic tennis courts. The incident was reported shortly before 7.30pm last night. The entire Metropolitan Police was mobilised, with patrols deployed at Sofia's exits. Martin Bozhanov is known to be involved in fraud. There have also been reports filed against him with the Prosecutor's office.
"Shots with firearms hit the body and maybe the head of the person. Pre-trial proceedings for murder have been initiated," said Ivo Iliev, Sofia's deputy city prosecutor.
"All the resources of the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs are involved in the search of the perpetrators," Interior Ministry Secretary General, Zhivko Kotsev, said.
"This man has been interesting over the years in relation to the Krashevsky case. The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has received reports of threats by him against magistrates who are not prosecutors. The case is being worked on and witnesses are being questioned. Other things are also being established, property fraud is also being investigated. There are still no suspects for the murder," Sofia City Prosecutor, Iliana Kirilova, added.
