One of the biggest monetary centres of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom was probably located in the fortress of Ryahovets near the town of Gorna Oryahovitsa in Central Northern Bulgaria, Bulgarian archaeologists say. During this season, they discovered a large amount of coins from XIV century with issuance featuring Tsar Ivan Alexander.
Other finds include a watchtower and a settlement of a legion, which proves that the military centre of the medieval state was located there. The work of the archaeologists was resumed after a 25 year break and they hope the findings will contribute to turning the fortress into a tourist destination.
