August 2024 in Bulgaria is one of the driest in the past 10 years

August 2024 was one of the warmest Augusts since 1930, according to a National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology weather report. Average monthly temperatures were between 21 and 28 degrees Celsius and were between 1 and 4 degrees above the monthly norm.

The highest measured temperature was 41.6 degrees Celsius on August 14 in Novachene in Pleven district.

The lowest minimum temperature at a station in a settlement was 6 degrees on 7 August in Chepelare, and the lowest temperature measured on a mountain peak was minus 4.1 degrees on Musala Peak on 27 August.

In Sofia, the highest measured temperature was 36.7 degrees on August 15 and the lowest was 11.5 degrees on August 7.

This is one of the driest Augusts since 2014. Across most of the country, monthly rainfall totals were between 2 and 50% of the climate norm.

In much of eastern Bulgaria and the mountainous areas of southern Bulgaria, the amounts of monthly precipitation were between 50 and 150% of the climatic norm. Only at individual weather stations, monthly precipitations were above 150% (Ivaylovgrad - 235%).

The largest measured 24-hour rainfall amount was 112 mm of rain in the village of Durankulak, Dobrich district, on 30 August.

Hail was recorded on six days of the month, the most - on 21 August at 11 weather stations.
