Bulgargaz to sue Gazprom over suspended gas supplies in 2022

Bulgargaz (the public supplier of natural gas in Bulgaria), will sue Gazprom Export for BGN 400 million over suspended gas supplies to Bulgaria in 2022. This was announced at a briefing at the Ministry of Energy on May 16. The Russian company stopped supplies at the end of April 2022, two months after the start of the war in Ukraine.

And more - Kozloduy NPP dropped its demand for a 30% increase in the price of electricity from July after a meeting with the energy minister.

Vladimir Malinov explained that the company can optimize costs and save money. Earlier today, the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) published the demands of various electricity producers for new prices from July, when the price for household consumers will be set. Currently, half of the electricity used in the country comes from the Kozloduy nuclear power plant and such an increase will also affect prices.

Late yesterday, the minister also met with caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, and the two agreed to provide money for the energy security guarantee fund. There is currently a shortfall of nearly 450 million BGN. This will ensure that there will be no price increases for household consumers.

Vladimir Malinov also announced that the Turkish company 'Botas' will make a discount of 11 million euros for Bulgaria in June, as there is a great interest in gas transmission. So far 13 companies have declared their willingness to receive blue fuel through Turkey via the contract with 'Botas'.
