BULGARIA’S COMPETITION WATCHDOG FINES COMPANIES OFFERING UBER SERVICES

Bulgaria’s Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) imposed four fines, at the total amount of 200,000 BGN, on two companies, which offer Uber taxi services in Bulgaria, said the CPC’s spokesperson, Mario Gavrilov, in an interview for the Bulgarian National Television on 6th of July.

He explained that the sanctions were imposed because according to CPC, the Uber service was identical with that of the taxi services, but the suppliers circumvented the lax legislation, did not pay license fees, did not report income and thus created uncompetitive environment on that market.

A fine of 50,000 BGN for each company was imposed for breaching competition rules and a fine of 50,000 each, was imposed because the two companies refused to cooperate and provide information requested by CPC, Gavrilov said.
