Bulgaria's local elections 2023: The new mayors of the district cities
After the local election run-off - the voter turnout in the country as at 8 p.m. on November 5 was 36.80%, the Central Election Commission said. See the results by districts with 100% of the tally sheets processed.
BLAGOEVGRAD
Metodi Baikushev (We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria) wins with 50.21% ahead of incumbent mayor Ilko Stoyanov (independent), who wins 47.24% support. The data are based on 100% of processed tally sheets in MEC.
VARNA
Blagomir Kotsev (We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria) wins the elections in Varna with 53.06% of the votes. The incumbent mayor Ivan Portnikh (GERB) has 41.52%.
VELIKO TURNOVO
Daniel Panov wins the elections in Veliko Tarnovo with 100% of processed protocols. Panov garnered 53.20% support and Yordan Terziyski of PP-DB - 42.30%.
VIDIN
Tsvetan Tsenkov (UDF) won with 57.28% in Vidin. Alexander Mateev from GERB got 39.92%.
GABROVO
Tanya Hristova from GERB wins the elections in Gabrovo. Hristova received 66.58% of the sipport, while "Vazarzhdane" candidate Daniel Petrov - 28.86%.
DOBRICH
Yordan Yordanov (local coalition DBG) wins with 50.72% of the votes against Krasimir Nikolov (GERB), who wins 45.04%.
KUSTENDIL
Ognyan Atanasov from the Green Party wins in Kyustendil with 68.63% against Petar Paunov, nominated by a local coalition, who received 29.61%.
LOVECH
Strassimir Petkov from "There is Such a People" won in Lovec, with 51.76% of the votes and Valentina Nedyalkova from GERB - 45.60%.
PASARZHIK
Pazardzhik’s new mayor is Petar Kulenski from We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria, with 53.94% of the vote. The incumbent mayor Todor Popov (local coalition "New Time") gained 43.95%.
PLEVEN
Valentin Hristov from GERB won the the mayoral race in Pleven. Hristov garnered 63.62% support, while Georg Spartanski, nominated by nominating committee received 33.51% of the vote.
PLOVDIV
Kostadin Dimitrov from GERB is the new mayor of Plovdiv with 54.15% support, while WCC-DB candidate Ivaylo Staribratov gathered 41.68% support.
RAZGRAD
Dobrin Dobrev, nominated by nominating comiitee, wins the vote in Razgrad with 54% against Miroslav Grancharov (WPP-DB), who collected 42.98%.
ROUSSE
Pencho Milkov of the Bulgarian Socialist Party won the elections in Rousse convincingly with 63% support, while GERB candidate Ivan Ivanov got 31.58%.
SILISTRA
Independent candidate Alexander Sabanov won the mayoral elections in Silistra with 56.21% of the vote. Ivelin Ivanov from GERB received 41.27%.
SLIVEN
Stefan Radev (GERB) wins the elections in Sliven with 59.33% of the votes. Plamen Stoyanov from "Direct Democracy" got 37.89% support.
SMOLYAN
Nikolai Melemov of GERB wons the elections in Smolyan with 48.63%of the vote and the candidate of the "Our town" Movement Stefan Sabrutev received 47.47%. The difference between the two is 149 votes or just over one percent.
SOFIA
Vassil Terziev (WCC-DB-Save Sofia) won 48.20% (175,044 votes) and Vanya Grigorova (local coalition "BSP for Bulgaria") - 46.89% (170,258). A large number of Sofia residents voted "I do not support anyone" - 4.91% (17,834).
HASKOVO
Stanislav Dechev from GERB won with 60.37% of the votes, while independent candidate NikolayStavrev garnered 37.37% support.
SHOUMEN
Hristo Hristov is the new mayor of Shumen with 71.38% of the votes and Georgi Kolev from GERB - 25.88%.
