Bulgaria's Ministery of Defence sends corspondence for purchase of 8 more F-16 fighter aircrafts
Bulgaria’s Ministry of Defense has sent letters of request for the possibility to purchase 8 more new F-16 aircrafts from the United States, it became clear after a meeting between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and representatives of the American corporation Lockheed Marti9 on September 29.
The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador Herro Mustafa.
As an expression of Bulgaria’s desire to develop a strategic partnership with the corporation, Bulgaria has also sent letters of request for acquiring three coordinate radars and other modern equipment.
The second stage of the project for acquisition of new fighter jets for the Bulgarian air forces envisages the purchase of 8 more F-16 aircrafts.
Borissov and the Americans discussed the long-term Industrial Cooperation Program, which is part of the agreement for the new fighter jets.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Bulgaria has already provided BGN 300 million for the repair of the Graf Ignatievo air base, where the new planes will be based.
