Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev held a telephone conversation with his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog
Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev on August 10 held a telephone conversation with President of the State of Israel Isaac Herzog. The two Heads of State shared a common position on the significant prospects for the development of relations between Bulgaria and Israel, raised to a strategic level, in areas of mutual interest such as the economy, energy, investments, tourism, education and security, the Head of State's press secretariat said.
Rumen Radev and Isaac Herzog were unanimous that the historical friendship between the two nations, cemented by the unprecedented act of saving Bulgarian Jews during World War II, constitutes a solid foundation for the all-round development of bilateral ties between Bulgaria and Israel. This special relationship is even more important in the current regional and global dynamics. They also provide a reliable shield against all encroachments on historical memory and truth, and against negative tendencies of hate speech, xenophobia and contemporary forms of anti-Semitism, the two Heads of State were adamant.
President Radev briefed his Israeli counterpart on the National Programme of Events and Initiatives for the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War, which is being implemented in 2023 under the patronage of the Bulgarian Head of State. Rumen Radev extended an invitation to Isaac Herzog to visit Bulgaria this year, and the visit of the President of the State of Israel to Bulgaria will also contribute to the subsequent deepening of the political dialogue at the highest level.
