BULGARIA DEPLOYS ARMY TO STRENGTHEN SECURITY AT THE BORDER WITH MACEDONIA

The extraordinary measures are taken to strengthen security at the three check points at the border with Macedonia because of the migrant influx.

Two light armoured vehicles and soldiers were deployed at Gyueshevo border crossing. The border police in Kyustendil said that the situation was calm and there was no indication for increased refugee flow towards Bulgaria. Military vehicles and soldiers were also deployed at Zlatarevo border crossing point near Petrich and will be deployed at Stanke Lisichkovo point on 27th of August.

The military will not perform independent tasks, but will reinforce the controls already carried out by the Border Police. Military patrols will be deployed inside the territory of Bulgaria.

Macedonians who cross the border to visit Bulgaria describe the situation in their country as extremely serious because of the large influx of migrants and expect assistance from the European Union.
