Bulgaria selected to host 47th Session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2025

Bulgaria will host the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2025.

The proposal was voted this morning, July 31, at the current 46th session of UNESCO in Delhi, India.

Bulgaria raised its candidacy after Minister of Culture, Nayden Todorov, held a series of meetings with delegates from various countries, which revealed a positive attitude and willingness to support Bulgaria. The Bulgarian candidacy also received the unreserved support of the parliamentary parties in the country.

"Cultural heritage is the part of our history that defines us as a civilisation. Once a year UNESCO brings together the World Heritage Committee, each year in a different country. In 2025, for the first time in history, Bulgaria has been selected to host the Committee's session," the Minister said.

He stressed that this will be an immense opportunity for all involved in culture and science to meet and exchange experience with colleagues from all over the world, and will also benefit businesses, young people and the country as a whole.

"Bulgaria's candidacy did something considered by many to be "impossible" - it united all parliamentary parties around one cause. Thank you to everyone who believed in this cause!" said Minister Todorov.
