Bulgaria will order additional over 3 mln doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna vaccines
Bulgaria will additionally order over 3 million doses of RNA vaccines, the Minister of Health, Kostadin Angelov, announced during the regular weekly government meeting on February 10.
In connection with the data we have at the level of the European Union and the possibilities for reduced supplies to the country of vaccines of Oxford and "Astra Zeneca", we propose to order additional 2,897,694 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and 460,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine, which will be proportionally distributed based on the population of our country, Angelov said.
The Minister of Health pointed out that the supply of additional vaccines is possible in view of the meeting of the so-called "Steering Board" set up by the European Commission on vaccines and the supplementary vaccine agreement between the European Commission and medicines manufacturers Pfizer and BioNTech.
"We believe that with this proposal the country will provide sufficient quantities of vaccine so that all Bulgarian citizens can have the opportunity to choose which vaccine to be vaccinated with and thus get extremely good coverage of the population and achieve the so-called.herd immunity ", added Minister Angelov.
Prime Minister Boyko Borissov reminded that so far the country has allocated millions for the provision of vaccines for Bulgarian citizens. Additional vaccine funding will be provided to implement the vaccination plan as soon as possible. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the situation with the pandemic could be contained through intensive vaccination.
