Bulgarian customs officers seized undeclared nearly 350,000 euros
Customs officers at Kalotina checkpoint seized 349,640 euros in undeclared currency.
On 11 September 2024, a truck travelling from Germany to Iraq, driven by a Turkish citizen, was checked at the border crossing.
According to the documents presented, the truck was carrying rubber products and equipment. The lorry was selected for X-ray inspection, which identified areas of unusual density in the driver's cab.
During a physical check, the customs officers found bundles of euro banknotes in various denominations totalling €349,640. They were placed between the upholstery and the metal ceiling of the cab. The currency was seized.
The regional Prosecutor's Office - Kostinbrod, Territorial Department - Slivnitsa, is conducting pre-trial proceedings for a crime under Article 251, para. 1 of the Criminal Code. The driver of the vehicle is charged for failure to comply with the obligation to declare money carried across the border of the country in large amounts. The driver was detained for up to 72 hours by order of the prosecutor.
The investigation of the case continues under the supervision of the Prosecutor's office.
