Bulgarian police have seized 449,800 smuggled cigarettes during a check of a freight vehicle at Makaza checkpoint.
The specialized operation was assigned by the Director of the District Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in the South Bulgarian city Kardzhali, chief commissioner Ventsitslav Momchilov and included police and customs officers from the local units.
The vehicle was stopped for a check at the check point at the border with Turkey about 20:00 on 10th of October. The police and customs officers discovered a concealment and 449,800 cigarettes without excise labels.
The regional Prosecutor’s office in the town of Momchilgrad was informed and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated following an on-site inspection.
The driver was detained.
This is the largest amount of smuggled cigarettes seized by the local police unit in the city of Kardzhali in the recent years.
