Bulgarian students win gold medals at International Olympiad in Kazahstan
The team of "Acad. Nikola Obreshkov" Mathematics and Natural Sciences High School, in Bulgaria’s coastal city of Burgas, won a full set of medals at the International Zhautykov Olympiad in Kazahstan, held from 8 to 13 January.
Angel Hristov won the gold medal in mathematics, Petko Lazarov took the silver and Vanessa Kalinova won a bronze medal. Georgi Kostadinov became third in the world in the field of physics, winning a bronze medal. At the competition in Kazakhstan they were together with their teacher and mentor Ganka Vateva.
The Zhautykov Olympiad in Mathematics, Physics and Informatics is an annual international Olympiad for students held annually in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This is its 20th edition, and the prestigious competition is attended by some of the best high school students from specialized physics and mathematics schools.
The purpose of the competition is to promote the sciences of mathematics, computer science and physics among young people, to develop international cooperation and to establish friendly links between specialised physics and mathematics schools around the world.
