Bulgarian Suspected of Hacking Bill Gates Bank Account Arrested in Philippines

A Bulgarian man suspected of hacking the bank account of Microsoft founder Bill Gates in 2011 was arrested in the Philipines, ABS-CBN information site said on 3rd of August.

The Philippine authorities identified the suspect as Konstantin Kavrakov. Kavrakov was about to board a passenger vessel bound for Tawi-Tawi, when he was held by port police and coast guard personnel for questioning. He failed to present travel documents.

The Philippine Coast Guard said it is validating information that Kavrakov is the same person arrested in 2011 for hacking the bank account of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, ABS-CBN says.

Kavrakov is allegedly the leader of an international syndicate responsible for cloning debit and credit cards.

Kavrakov did not have his passport and travel documents. However, authorities found a Philippine driver's license in his possession with his name and picture.

The arrest of Kavrakov was a result of tighter security measures being implemented in the port area of Zamboanga City following President Rodrigo Duterte’s martial declaration in Mindanao, which was extended by Congress until December 31, ABS-CBN added.
