Bulgaria’s top tennis player Grigor Dimitrov made an excellent start to the season after winning the title of the ATP 250 tennis tournament in Brisbane, Australia with a prize fund of 661,585 dollars.

Dimitrov's opponent in today's final (January 7) was Denmark's Holger Rune. The Bulgarian won the final battle 7:6, 6:4 after two hours and 19 minutes of play to win his first trophy since 2017. Thanks to the success, he will start the new week at number 13.

Grigor Dimitrov beat olger Rune 7-6 (5) 6-4 in a tightly-fought battle of the top seeds in the Brisbane International final which stretched over two hours and 19 minutes.

Dimitrov, ranked 14th in the world and second seed in Brisbane, claimed his ninth title with victory and his first since the ATP finals in 2017.

Both tennis players had chances for a breakthrough in the first set, but in the end it did not come to such and everything was decided in a tiebreak, in which Dimitrov took the first three points and kept his lead until the end to prevail with 7:5.

In the second, the game was equal again, but our top seed made a break and led 4:3, and then took his serve and pulled away with 5:3. Rune, however, managed to cut it to 5:4 on his own serve. Dimitrov was faultless and managed to close the match after 6:4.

Grigor Dimitrov was very steady on his serve throughout the match, deflecting all three break opportunities that opened up for his opponent. The Bulgarian realized 28 winning shots against only 8 unforced errors, while the balance of Rune was 35/15. Dimitrov won 17 points from 26 trips to the net and hit 8 aces, taking 77 percent of the points on his first serve.

In 2013, Dimitrov lost the final to Andy Murray, but in 2017 he won. So after today's final, Dimitrov now has two titles, as many as Murray himself holds.

Dimitrov and Rune are facing each other for the third time, with the first occasion being a success for the 20-year-old Dane in the Wimbledon semi-finals. A few months later, however, the Bulgarian won their second-round match at the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing.

Episode No. 3 of the rivalry between Grigor Dimitrov and Holger Rune, however, ended with a title for the Bulgarian tennis player.

Dimitrov played for the 18th time in an ATP final in his career and won his ninth title.
