BULGARIAN THRACIAN TREASURES ON THEIR WAY TO THE LOUVRE

Exactly at 5.50 a.m. on 23rd of March, the treasures of the ancient Thracians departed for the Louvre Museum in Paris, where they are scheduled for an exhibition in April. The loading of the items began at 4.00 a.m. from the storage facilities of the National Museum of History in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

Over 1,600 valuables collected in 50 containers were loaded on the armoured trucks of the Bulgarian National Bank in the yard of the National Museum of History in Sofia and were escorted by police on the way to the airport.

The antique objects were carefully selected for the exhibition entitled “Epic of the Thracian Kings” by four Bulgarian and French curators.

The state guarantee for the treasures is about 1 million euro and the insurance is worth 164 million euro, the director of the museum, Bozhidar Dimitrov, said.

The archeological treasures will be flown to the final destination, Paris, via Switzerland, where the flight will make a refueling stop.

The exhibition will be officially opened on 14th of April in the Louvre Museum and will run for 3 months. Nearly 4 million people are expected to visit the exhibition.
