Bulgaria’s Parliament votes on Denkov-Gabriel draft cabinet
At an extraordinary sitting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6th, the Bulgarian Parliament votes on the draft cabinet Denkov-Gabriel, proposed by the second largest parliamentary group, “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria”.
The sitting has been convened by the Speaker Rosen Zhelyazkov on Monday after President Rumen Radev issued a decree asking Parliament to approve the proposal.
The agenda for the Tuesday sitting of Parliament includes three items: electing a Prime Minister, voting on the government structure and electing a Council of Ministers.
President Radev will also attend Parliament’s extraordinary sitting.
The proposed government on a rotating basis was put together after the second largest group in Parliament “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria”, reached an agreement with the largest parliamentary group, GERB-UDF.
According to the agreement, Denkov of WCC-DB will serve as Prime Minister for the first nine months, after which GERB-UDF’s Mariya Gabriel will take over as PM in the next 9 months.
The proposed cabinet is supported by WCC-DB and GERB-UDF. The two coalitions have a total of 132 MPs, which is enough to support the draft cabinet in plenary chamber if all vote in favour.
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms has not yet announced its decision on whether they would vote in favour of the proposed cabinet or not.
The remaining parliamentary groups, “Vazrazhdane”, Bulgarian Socialist Party and “There is Such a People” have said that they will not support the government with the second mandate, “Vazrazhdane” is organizing a protest today.
