Bulgaria’s President and European Council President discuss EU migration policy
President Rumen Radev and European Council President Charles Michel on February 7 discussed the need for reforms in European migration policy. The two have commented on the need for more solidarity with the countries that form the external borders of the EU and are directly exposed to migration pressure.
The conversation was part of the preparations for the extraordinary EC meeting, on February 9 and 10, when Bulgaria will be represented by Bulgaria’s Head of State, President Radev.
Radev and Michel also discussed the negative economic and security consequences in Europe resulting from Russia's war against Ukraine.
In the talks, President Rumen Radev stressed that Skopje is declaring its ambitions to join the EU against the backdrop of the escalating anti-Bulgarian campaign in the country, which has led to hate crimes such as arson and firing at Bulgarian cultural clubs and violence against Macedonian Bulgarians and Bulgarian citizens.
