Bulgaria’s President Radev is in Moldova on a two-day visit
Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev and his wife, Desislava Radeva, on October 27, arrived in the Moldovan capital Chisinau, where the head of state will meet with President Maia Sandu after the country received EU candidate status in June.
The occasion for the visit is also the Day of the Bessarabian Bulgarians - 29 October, and the Day of the National Revival Leaders.
Tomorrow, President Radev will visit the Taraclia State University "Grigorii Tsamblak", which has retained its academic autonomy and is the only educational institution outside Bulgaria with extended Bulgarian language studies.
He will also meet with the Bessarabian Bulgarians in Moldova. They are a recognised national minority and, according to official figures, number around 51,000 people. There is also a large Bulgarian community in the unrecognised Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic.
Moldova is one of the countries most affected by the wave of refugees from Ukraine because of the war.
