Caretaker cabinet made a decision to replace the head of the State Agency for National Security

The Council of Ministers decided to replace the chairman of Bulgaria’s State Agency for National Security (SANS), Dimitar Georgiev and proposed to the President to issue a decree for his release from the post. This was announced by caretaker Prime Minister, Stefan Yanev,.at a briefing after a government meeting on May 26.

It is not difficult to define the motives: with his behaviour, this chairman set a precedent, which damaged the prestige of the service and created grounds for taking politically motivated actions in a depoliticised structure such as SANS, added the Prime Minister.

We are trying to free the state from illegal practices and actions, so that institutions can work in the public interest, to comply with laws and regulations. If this is an accusation that we are doing something wrong for the state, I am ready to take this responsibility, said the caretaker Prime Minister.

Plamen Tonchev will be nominated for a new chairman of SANS.

Whether the chairpersons of other security services will be replaced or not, it will become clear when we make a decision, the caretaker Prime Minister stressed.

At its meeting today, the Council of Ministers also adopted a decree, which provided BGN 104 million and 400 thousand for the 50 BGN monthly supplement to the pensions of all Bulgarian pensioners. These are 2 million and 88 thousand Bulgarian citizens, announced the Minister of Social Policy, Galab Donev.

The payment of the monthly supplements of BGN 50 to all citizens who receive pensions will continue until the end of the term of the caretaker government, the minister stressed.

The caretaker Prime Minister also announced that the Council of Ministers has decided to appoint four incumbent regional governors in Sofia, Dobrich, Varna and Silistra, thus ending the commitment related to the preparation for the election process and the participation of regional governments.
