Charges Pressed against Chief Architect of Assenovgrad for Taking Bribe

Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against the chief architect of Asenovgrad for allegedly receiving a bribe and against an owner of a company that mediated the transfer of the money, the press office of the prosecution announced on 8th of February.

Konstantin Atanasov is accused that in November 2016, in Assenovgrad, in his capacity of Chief Architect of the Municipality, he requested 10,000 BGN from a bank office manager. On 10 December 2016, in Plovdiv, the accused received 8,000 BGN, handed over by the accused Mitko Z. to coordinate a Conceptual project for reconstruction and rearrangement of a former hotel in Assenovgrad in a "multifunctional mixed-use building".

The act was carried out with extortion, as Atanasov allegedly told the bank manager that in order to get the project approved, Mitko Z. should be hired as a consultant.

Mitko Z. was charged with aiding and that from the end of November 2016 to December 10, 2016, in Assenovgrad and Plovdiv, as an accessory, he allegedly facilitated the accused Atanasov to accept a bribe of BGN 8,000. The aiding was carried out by making offers on behalf of his consultancy firm, as well as invoices with a specified bank account, from which he subsequently withdrew the money which he handed to Konstantin Atanasov.
