Bulgaria is at the beginning of the fourth wave of coronavirus spread, the Chief State Health Inspector, Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev, told a briefing on August 2.

He reported that the incidence had reached 30 cases per 100,000 population.

Kunchev said that in the coastal districts of Varna and Bourgas, the incidence is already 60 per 100,000 people, but at this stage there is no serious pressure on medical institutions.

His forecast is that by mid-August, Bulgaria will enter the Covid-19 “orange zone”, which means that the incidence will exceed 100 cases per 100,000 people.

Bulgaria extends Covid-19 epidemic emergency period to August 31

According to the chief state health inspector, there is an increase in the number of people willing to be vaccinated. Due to non-compliance with the anti-epidemic measures, mass inspections are expected to begin at the seaside and in major cities.

Within hours, three ministers will issue a joint order for the inspections. Discos, petrol stations and other places where there are larger gatherings of people will be subject to regular checks.
