Contract for construction of new capacities at Kozloduy nulcear power plant signed
An engineering contract for the construction of new capacity at Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP) was signed in the Granite Hall of the Council of Ministers earlier today, November 4.
Petyo Ivanov, Executive Director of Kozloduy NPP - New Build and Elias Gedion Westinghouse Electric Company and Jun Young-Jun, CEO of Hyundai Engineering & Construction. signed the contract for new nuclear capacities at Kozloduy NPP Site 2.
The ceremony was attended by the caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and the caretaker Ministers of Energy, Vladimir Malinov, and of Environment and Water, Petar Dimitrov, as well as the Ambassadors of the United States and the Republic of Korea.

"With the signing of today's contract, a project will be implemented that will only build on the experience that Bulgaria has in this field and will contribute to the independence, diversification and stability of nuclear energy in Bulgaria, and not only in Bulgaria, but throughout Southeast Europe," said caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev.
"We are fulfilling one of the key milestones set in the decision of the National Assembly, namely to make the process irreversible and I hope and believe that within 12 months from today we will have the engineering of the project ready. We will have a clear commitment from the two companies regarding the timeframe for the implementation of the project and a fixed price," caretaker Energy Minister, Vladimir Malinov, said.
"Our AP1000 reactor has met all safety standards," said Elias Gedion of Westinghouse Electric Company.
"Bulgaria has always been a crossroads of exchange between East and West and today it is establishing itself as an energy hub in Europe. The Kozloduy NPP will play an important role in enhancing Bulgaria's nuclear security and in promoting sustainable development through decarbonisation," said Jun Young-Jun, Hyundai Engineering & Construction.
