A Coordination Council is established to organize the process of immunization against COVID-19 in Bulgaria. In the coming days, this council should present a vaccination plan. It became clear today, December 2, that the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines will arrive by the end of the year.

The Minister of Health presented a National Pandemic Preparedness Plan.

The plan was adopted today by the Council of Ministers and will be like a template to be followed in the event of further pandemics, not just the Covid-19. It is drafted as per WHO guidelines and contains the algorithm according to which the institutions must act and communicate with each other.

The pandemic preparedness plan, but the PM has asked for a plan for the vaccination. That is why a Coordination Council is being set up, which will take on the task of organizing the logistics, the storage of vaccines, and the vaccination itself when the time comes.

The health minister said he expects vaccination to begin after the New Year. And he assured that the Bulgarians will have access to the same vaccines, to which all citizens of the European Union have access to.

The process of equipping with refrigerators and freezers, in which the first shipment of vaccines will be stored, is currently underway.

By the end of the week, three places in the country will be equipped with refrigerators and freezers. They will store the first shipment of 130,000 Pfizer vaccines.

Subsequent shipments will be distributed to other cities. But even before the vaccines arrived, the health minister reminded:

"Many members of the public think that the vaccines will be imposed in some way. No, the vaccines will be voluntary and free-of-charge," said Kostadin Angelov, health minister.

The Prime Minister ordered the establishment of a Coordination Council, which will organize all the details of the immunization. The council will be headed by Professor Krassimir Gigov, director-general of the Bulgarian Red Cross and chief co-ordinator of the expert council on emergency medical treatment.

"Focus first on the medical staff and the groups that are the most vulnerable. The mortality rate shows that the average age is 71 years, ie the elderly. Then think about the next," said Boyko Borissov, Prime Minister of Bulgaria.
