Cougar helicopter joins the fight against two wildfires in Rila mountains
A Cougar helicopter from Krumovo air base joined the efforts to fight the wildfire which occurred in the area of Chaushov dol in Bulgaria’s Rila National Park.
The terrain is difficult to access and this makes it difficult for firefighters.
The helicopter is equipped with a bambi bucket system, used for aerial firefighting. The commander of the crew is Lieutenant Colonel Stefan Stefanov and the co-pilot is Major Alexander Tsankov.
By 16.41 today, May 27, the crew dropped 4 tonnes of water.
The Air Force is helping to control the fire at the request of the Chief Directorate of Fire Safety and Population Protection.
The extinguishing of two wildfires fires above the Rila Monastery continues for the fourth day. Forestry workers with heavy equipment are paving the way to get closer to the fire. Both fires have been brought under control but not extinguished.
