Covid-19: Bulgaria reports 43 more cases of the Indian variant

Out of 95 samples tested at the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, 49 were identified as being the UK variant and 43 were the Indian variant of the coronavirus. One case of the South African variant was identified and 2 samples of other variants.

The samples were taken from Covid-19 patients in the period 1-25 June, 2021 in 26 health facilities in 14 districts of the country.

Most cases of the Indian variant were registered in Sofia-city - 33, followed by Sofia-district - 4 and Pleven - 2, Varna - 1, Kyustendil - 1, Pernik - 1 and Vidin - 1. The positive sample of the South African variant is from Sofia.

Most infected with the Delta variant - 25, are treated at home. 7 people are hospitalized. 8 have recovered and 3 people infected with the Indian variant have died.

An additional epidemiological study is currently underway, the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases said on July 7.
