Day 43 of anti-government protests
On day 43 of the anti-government protests, three key crossroads in Sofia remain blocked to traffic: the one at Sofia University; at Eagles’ Bridge and aat the council of Ministers.
The starting point on August 20 was again the Independence square in Sofia.
About 21:30, the protest procession walked to the building of the Ministry of Interior. The idea of the protesters was to show that the job of the police is to protect the public rather than the politicians and corruption in the state.
The protesters were throwing eggs, toilet paper and tomatoes at the building.
As on previous days, the procession ended at Eagles’ Bridge.
From the rostrum, protesters commented the decision of Sofia Regional Court to release on bail the man who was detained in relation to the incident at sitnyakovo boulevard, in which the car of a female driver was damaged as she was trying to pass the blockade.
The protesters called this a “small victory” and called for more active participation in the protests, especially on September 2, when the protest is planned to go on all day.
On their Facebook page, the organisers of the protests, the so called “Poisonous Trio” published a report on the funding collected to date for the protest - a total of 65,000 BGN. From this amount 17,000 B GN have been spent for tents, food and everything necessary for a protest.
Protesters in Bulgaria’s second largest city of Plovdiv this evening put up tents in front of the building of the International Fair, thus blocking the traffic on a key crossroads of Tsar Boris III boulevard and Maritsa-Sever boulevard.
Tensions ran high for a short time during the procession as protesters wanted to walk though Tsar Boris III Osvoboditel boulevard, which was not allowed for their route. Police cordon refused to allow the procession to pass through the boulevard. Abound 21:00, the protesters managed to overcome the police cordon and stepped on the boulevard. Traffic was stopped.

Anti-government protests were held in the cities of Varna and Rousse.
