Directorate for combating organised crime warns about paedophilia accusations e-mail scam
The Chief Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (CDCOC) has released information that fraudulent e-mails are being circulated about investigations related to child pornography, cyberpornography and paedophilia.
The Cybersecurity Department of CDCOC reports on January 9 that fraudulent emails are being distributed purporting to have beeen sent from official European and national law enforcement institutions.
In short, the fraudulent message states that the recipient is the subject of an investigation related to child pornography and should therefore pay a certain amount of money in order to have the prosecution against him dropped.
Experts' advice is to avoid opening attachments when receiving such emails, as this may pose a potential risk to the computer from which they are opened.
"We would like to remind you that both in the Ministry of the Interior and in European law enforcement institutions, it is not a practice to send this type of documents via e-mail," the directorate for combating organised crime explained.
