At Bulgaria’s request, the European Commission has provided data from the Copernicus satellite system on the state of the areas affected by the floods along the southern Black Sea coast in recent days.

А European Commission spokesperson said on September 7 that the footage is of the area around Burgas (on Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast).

The European Union's Copernicus programme provides information services based on satellite observation of the Earth. It is actively used in disaster and emergency situations. The programme is coordinated and managed by the European Commission and the information services provided are free of charge for the Member States. Greece has also requested satellite images of the flood-affected regions.

Bulgaria so far has not requested the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Any country can request assistance from Brussels under the Mechanism if the scale of the disaster and emergency overwhelms the response capabilities of the country.
