EC registered "Troyanska Lukanka" as Food with Traditional Specific Character
The European Commission has approved the entry of the name 'Troyanska Lukanka' in the register of foodstuffs with traditional special character (TSG). The name of a product that is registered as a TSG protects it from counterfeiting and misuse.
The traditional production method of 'Troyanska Lukanka', which is characterised by a drying and smoking process, has made this type of product unique in Bulgaria. The name 'Troyanska' itself derives etymologically from the name of the town of Troyan, North Central Bulgaria, i.e. where it was first produced and popularised by master Iliya Taslakov. In 1883, he imported the first meat-grinding machines to Bulgaria and was one of the country's first producers of lukanka (flat sausage).
'Troyanska Lukanka' will be added to the list of 69 foodstuffs with traditional special character that are already protected.
