First LNG supply to Bulgaria from the Alexandroupolis terminal
The first delivery of LNG to Bulgaria was completed today, October 3, through the new floating terminal near Alexandroupolis, in which Bulgaria is a shareholder. This took place in the presence of the caretaker Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov.
As of October 3, Bulgaria receives liquefied natural gas from the Alexandroupolis terminal. The first delivery is 100 million cubic meters.
The facility commissioned on 1 October 2024. Its capacity is 5.5 billion cubic metres per year.
From today, Bulgaria started receiving its first supplies of blue fuel. This is 100mcm from Norway. Bulgaria owns 20 per cent of the project, with Bulgargas having a reserved capacity of 1 bcm per year for 10 years. The terminal allows for a rhythmic supply of liquefied gas from all over the world not only to our country, but also to South-Eastern and Central Europe.
"We have now achieved real diversification of natural gas for Bulgaria and therefore for the whole region. The new source will ensure our country's energy independence. Our economy is calm and competitive and our households can rely on heating. Malinov explained that a project for a second floating liquefied gas terminal with Bulgarian participation in Alexandroupolis is already underway.
